Program at a Glance

Welcome to the Institute! We are proud to be training leaders in the world of Somatic Sex Education.

Our certificate program consists of 5 individual courses, taken at the pace that is right for you. The program includes:

  • Two online courses that allow you to learn virtually from anywhere in the world
  • Two embodiment intensives held in Victoria, BC, Seattle, WA, or online
  • A Practicum supervised by a qualified mentor of your choice who will help you develop the skills you need in the specific area you want to practice in
  • Live weekly online teachings and Q+A with the ISSSE Faculty
  • Four electives you choose to help you develop your special offering in this daring and much-needed field.
  • A BIPOC mentorship program for students who identify as BIPOC/racialized

Registration for CC1: Foundations of Somatic Sex Education is ongoing, there are no pre-requisites, and you can enroll at any time. At the end of your course, you will meet with your faculty mentor for a one on one evaluation call, and together you will decide if you are ready to move on to CC2, and so on for each consecutive course. Completion of one course does not guarantee you will be invited to the next course, as we are carefully guiding students through our program.

Each course is registered for individually, and flexible payment options are available for courses 2 through 5. Courses 1, 3 and 5 are taken online.  You have 7 months to complete each of Courses 1 and 5 with the support of your faculty mentor, and 9 months to complete Course 3. Courses 2 and 4 are embodiment intensives which can be taken in person (7 days) or online (10 half-days). You may take up to 3 years to complete the program.

Students and graduates are invited to attend our weekly Community of Practice call via Zoom. This is a great opportunity to connect with other students, build community, find inspiration and support, and enrich your online learning experience. We also host an additional weekly call for advanced students (courses 3 & above).

To be eligible to graduate, students must successfully complete all 5 courses and 4 electives, two of which may be any of our pre-approved electives taken at any time during the training. The faculty guides students in choosing electives, and previous courses/classes may be considered.

Graduates who attend at least one in-person embodiment intensive will be certified as somatic sex educators and sexological bodyworkers and are eligible to join the professional Somatic Sex Educators Association (SSEA) and the Association of Certified Sexological Bodyworkers (ACSB). Graduates who complete the entire program online will be certified as somatic sex educators with an online specialization. Students who have completed CC3 are eligible to join the SSEA as student members.
